About Precision Soda Blasting

Scott McWhirter Soda BlastingMy name is Scott McWhirter and I started Precision Soda Blasting in 2007, not only because I thought it would be fun and interesting, but there weren’t any soda blasters in the South Bay Area. I am a one-man shop located in Morgan Hill.

I am a native Californian, born and raised in San Jose. I have always enjoyed cars, car shows, going to the races . . . you get the picture! I enjoy cars of all ages and types, with a special interest in Novas.

I really enjoy what I do, as it is such a neat process.I originally thought that I would mainly be soda blasting cars for people preparing their cars for paint during restoration, but I have blasted a variety of different items as shown in the Gallery. There is a real satisfaction seeing the difference of a project before blasting and after. I find the good, the bad, and the ugly!

One of the main advantages of Soda Blasting is that it is much gentler than sand blasting. I blast with bicarbonate of soda and it is biodegradable and water soluble. It is environmentally safe and considered a GREEN product. It leaves a smooth finish as opposed to sand blasting which leaves surfaces pitted, therefore requiring more prep to ready the project for paint.

An interesting fact is that due to its gentleness, Soda Blasting was used to clean the exterior surface of the Statue of Liberty.
